On 1st of May 1931 President Herbert Hoover officially opened The Empire State Building in New York by pressing the button in the white house which was the symbol of lighting the buildings lights for the first time. One of the most iconic buildings in america and in the whole world. When built, it was given a title of the highest building ever made. It proudly held that title until late 1970 when one of the World Trade Center towers. The building was designed by William F. Lamb and Its said that project was born in the race between Empire State Building, 40 Wall Street and the Chrysler building to create tallest building in the history. It was planned in Art-Deco style and it's look was based on the look of a pencil. At the time of completion it was 1,250ft. Time of the construction was also a record. It took just 20 months to build the building that for around 40 years was the tallest one. The cost was as high as $645 million in 2016 dollars. Because of the market crash few years later less than 25% of the space was occupied when it was opened. Until the II world war when it finally became profitable it was considered a financial failure. During the war in 1945 one of B-25 bombers crashed into one side of the building which resulted in 14 deaths. What is even more interesting is the fact that almost a year later another aircraft nearly missed the tower. Following the path of the Incidents involving Empire State Building we got the series of more than 30 suicide attempts. Most of them were sadly successful. Building was featured in more than 90 films and the number is still growing. One of the most famous appearances it had was in King Kong from 1933. It's said that it is the most photographed building in the history. That truly is one of the most important and biggest achievements in the history of skyscrapers.

OdpowiedzUsuńStick to the word limit (200 words).
Mind the spelling of names - begin with a capital letter: America, the White House (unless it was just a random white house).
Steer clear of wikipedia in your future posts. You can obviously read it but find other sources please.
why in your opinion it was the biggest achivement in the history of skycrapers? mayby it was the tallest one these days but now we have much taller buildings.
OdpowiedzUsuńI think he meant that it was the first one and it was the biggest building for over 40 years. It was given as an example for modern buildings. Of course nowadays we have bigger ones but in those days it was something amazing.
